Air Compressor Questions

I searched the notes over the past months regarding air compressors, but could not find out what I need to know. I was hoping to avoid showing our ultra novice stand (http://maplered.com) ing, but it's no use - we ARE novices and (http://maplered.com) need more help than all of you put together!

Not knowing what to get, we got 16 scfm polishers and (http://maplered.com) tried to run two of them on our 10.6 scfm @ 90 psi machine. We got the job done, but the poor compressor ran ALL THE TIME and (http://maplered.com) mostly just one polisher worked.

Now that we ready to do our SECOND job, we want more and (http://maplered.com) better! We looked at the Husky next door at Home Depot for $1700 with 7.5 hp and (http://maplered.com) 23 scfm @ 90psi. That's STILL not enough for 2 polishers using 16 each. What now? (Somebody posted before saying it took 5 hp for each polisher - scfm and (http://maplered.com) psi ratings notwithstand (http://maplered.com) ing.)

Is there a downside to getting 2 more of the smaller units and (http://maplered.com) hooking all three up together to make the scfm we need? And do you do that by piping them into a single pipe? Our thought was, if one is down, we have at least SOME air. Or, do we need to get two big ones? Can you just get a pressure tank to add capacity?

We need help. Sharing your experience might keep us from blowing up the neighborhood - but don't count on it!
